3:45am Alarms and Remembering Why We Do This Job

Hello, you lovely lot…

Another Monday. AGAIN.

Honestly, they come round a bit quick sometimes!

  • Last week I was absolutely done in.
  •
  • Fully cooked.
  • Brain like mushy peas.
  • And of course… I had two onsite days with eye-watering early starts to look forward to.

At the time? Dreading it.
In hindsight? Loved every minute.
Although the 3:45am alarm can still get straight in the bin.

Two events, two smooth shows, and some lovely faces I’ve not seen in ages.
That “ohhh THIS is why we do this job” feeling kicked right back in.

And I learned a few things… about the business… and about myself.
But that’s a story for another Monday.

Perspective

The journey home from day one in London? Absolute carnage.

Trains cancelled, complete chaos.

But the reason was grim – someone had jumped in front of a train.

And honestly… when that happens, I can’t get annoyed.
Imagine being in such a dark place that that feels like your best option.

Puts everything into perspective really, doesn’t it?

Meanwhile…

DOUGAL HAS DREADLOCKS!

Yes.
My dog has dreadlocks.

Actual matted chunks of fur like a tiny canine Bob Marley.

And, entirely my fault – I haven’t kept up with the endless brushing.
And now he won’t let me anywhere near him with scissors.

  • I feel bad for him.
  • I feel bad for me.
  • And mostly… I fear the judgement of next week’s groomer.

And of course, because the universe loves a giggle, it’s been a few wet weeks of sideways rain.

But there is something quite therapeutic about getting drenched, then collapsing on the sofa with a soggy dog who smells faintly of fox.

My dog has dreadlocks.

The lodger hunt begins again…

Yes, it’s that time again.

Finding a lodger is like crewing an event – you don’t just want someone available… you want the right someone who won’t drive you up the wall.

Wish me luck.

And if you know anyone…

A softer Maverick moment…

Not much deep wisdom from me today – it’s been a reflective week.

It must be the calm before the twinkly Christmas chaos!

I’m soaking it up while it lasts.

But one final question…

Have you put your Christmas decorations up yet?

Can you beat early November?

I have a friend who goes straight from Halloween to Christmas decorations!

And if you are planning ahead?

Last-minute or well ahead of time…
